Wash It Away

One of the first activities as a family when we moved to North Carolina was to visit the beach. There is something about the ocean that has always intrigued me. The vastness of it. The constant movement. All the fish you can’t see. I do love all of nature, but there is something special about watching the waves crash into the shore.

One of my favorite things that I’ve ever been apart of was on the beach. It was our mission trip to LA a couple of years ago. We talked about Hebrews 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Since we were on the beach, we spread out and prayed that God would reveal our sin and things that hinder us. When we knew some of the things that were holding us back, we wrote them in the sand close to the water and watched the waves wash them away.

It was such a great visual picture of God washing that stuff away in our lives. Claiming victory over those things and being able to run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

We have victory in Jesus today friends! We are new creations! If you are struggling today, I want to encourage you to visualize yourself writing that thing in the sand and washing it wash away. Claim victory over those hindrances and sins! Let’s persevere!

  1. I’ve read this post twice now. I just love it! How awesome it must have been to stand on the shore and do this. Though Jesus is always here for us and has washed it away (once and for all, being the perfect sacrifice), I think we sometimes forget that all the little things— our fears and failures, our weaknesses, our worries and doubts, our struggles have also been taken care of. He struggles with us; we are never alone… Even in the vastness of it all. He takes it away.
